Since this is not my usual fair when reviewing, I asked my daughter to help me review My Princess Bible, published by Tyndale House Publishers.
My Princess Bible is an interesting take on telling the stories of biblical women. My daughter found the pictures to be entertaining and the stories were easy to read. She is in first grade but reads at a much higher grade level, so the stories were not really challenging for her.
The biggest issue I have with this book is that it could feed into what we refer to in our family as “the princess complex.” There are far too many girls out there believing they are a princess, when in reality, they are just spoiled. My wife and I work very hard to combat this attitude, and a book published by a Christian publishing house that promotes this idea, even with a ‘God’s princess’ twist, is still somewhat difficult to adapt to.
That is not to say the book promoted bad values, because it did not. But it could provide some fodder for this complex in the lives of some girls.
Tyndale House Publishers provided me with a free copy of this book to use in my review.
