I always thought American Idol was about AMATEUR talent being discovered…
Apparently, I was wrong. For the last four or five seasons, the talent pool has included more and more professional and/or represented talent. How is that even fair?
When Kelly Clarkson or Bo Bice came to the show, they were unknown amateurs who were singing in their showers or taking voice lessons on Main Street, Nowhere, USA.
I can’t even force myself to watch it anymore.
It made me think though. Was there a time when the church was the business of the gifted amateur and not the trained professional? What was the church like then? When everyone was truly dependent on the Spirit of God and not on the abilities of the leaders or the predisposition of the people?
